London police have made two arrests after a new Banksy artwork was stolen off the street barely an hour after it was first revealed.
The Metropolitan Police told the BBC they arrested one man in his 20s on Saturday and a second man in his 40s on Sunday. Both men were charged with theft and criminal damage, according to The Guardian.
Police have not yet recovered the artwork and have asked the public to come forward with any information on its whereabouts.
The infamous street artist Banksy revealed his latest artwork on Instagram on Friday. The piece is a red stop sign featuring three military drones, which social-media users widely interpreted to be a criticism of military action in Gaza. The artwork was on a signpost on a street corner in south London.
Images and videos went viral on social media showing a man brazenly removing the artwork with bolt cutters in front of a small crowd of onlookers.
The London Metropolitan Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
