Alaska and West Virginia have the worst economies of all US states and are more at risk of recession, study finds

The US economy is still in a fragile position and while there are signs the country could avoid a recession, some states are faring better than others.

Economic differences between regions mean some states may be more at risk of falling into a recession than others, a study by CNBC has found.

To rank each state's economy, the annual study analyzed regional differences, including overall economic growth, the housing market, job growth, and the position of state finances.

The outlet studied the number of major corporations headquartered in each region and the number of new businesses being set up in the states.

States like Florida, Texas, and North Carolina were considered to have the best regional economies, while Alaska and West Virginia fell to the bottom of the list.

These are the 10 states with the worst economies, according to the analysis.

10. Hawaii

The state was given a grade of D+.
