Authorities are responding to an active shooter situation at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California."The public is being asked to stay away from the base to ensure emergency responders can respond accordingly," read a statement on the base's Facebook page.
The incident reportedly started at the base exchange, according to CBS Sacramento.
A simulated exercise was scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, however, the incident does not appear related to it, CBS reported. The base is also under lockdown with loudspeakers emphasizing that the incident is not a drill.
"Shelter in place. Lock doors/windows. Await further info," a tweet from the base's official account said.
