Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, allegedly threw ice on another person "for some unknown reason" at a bar during his junior year at Yale University.

A 21-year-old Dom Cozzolino accused the college-aged Kavanaugh of throwing ice on him in the September 1985 incident, which was recorded in a police report that was obtained by The New York Times.

Chris Dudley, a former Yale basketball player and a friend of Kavanaugh's, allegedly threw a glass at Cozzolino, according to a witness cited in the police report.

The glass hit the man in the right ear, causing him to bleed. He was treated at a hospital, The Times reported.

According to the police report, Kavanaugh was reluctant to say whether "he threw the ice or not." Dudley reportedly denied the allegations.

The report did not indicate whether any charges were filed and whether there were any arrests, according to The Times.

The incident was recounted by Chad Ludington, another classmate of Kavanaugh's who has been in contact with the FBI amid a supplemental background check on Kavanaugh following allegations of sexual misconduct by several women.

Ludington claimed that after a UB40 concert, a group that included Kavanaugh went to a bar where they spotted a man who some in the group believe resembled a member of the band.

The man Kavanaugh's group reportedly homed in on told the group to stop looking at him. According to The Times, Kavanaugh shot back and allegedly threw the beer "at the guy," Ludington told the newspaper.

"I don't know what Brett was doing in the melee, but there was blood, there was glass, there was beer and there was some shouting, and then the police showed up," Ludington added.

Ludington described the incident in a statement published by The Times on Sunday:

"On one of the last occasions I purposely socialized with Brett, I witnessed him respond to a semi-hostile remark, not by defusing the situation, but by throwing his beer in the man's face and starting a fight that ended with one of our mutual friends in jail."

On Monday evening, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders sought to downplay the incident and called The Times' report "ridiculous."

"Democrats desperately attack Judge Kavanaugh for throwing ice during college," Sanders said on Twitter. "What motivated New York Times reporter to write this ridiculous story? Throwing ice 33 years ago, or her opinion of Judge Kavanaugh in July?"

The bar fight report comes amid Kavanaugh's testimony in which he challenged claims that suggested he was a "sloppy drunk."

Kavanaugh also denied the sexual assault allegation from Christine Blasey Ford, a 51-year-old research psychologist who alleged that a "stumbling drunk" Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and groped her at a house party when the two were in high school in the 1980s.
