Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), founded by S.Ramadoss in the year 1989 has forged an alliance with BJP for the upcoming lok sabha elections 2019. In 2014 parliamentary and 2016 assembly elections, a situation rose when the party got isolated due to its policy of not aligning with any of the Dravidian parties."Vanniyar votes are not for others" has been its slogan over the last decade. Vanniyar is one of the most backward caste in Tamil Nadu and PMK has been hedging its bets only on the Vanniyar votes.
