Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly called a cabinet meeting at 8 pm tonight to discuss the opposition's attack on the notes ban. The meeting is set to take place at 7 RCR, and will also include discussion on what other measures can be taken to improve the situation.

Safe to say, the morning's shortlived debate on the notes ban in Rajya Sabha was what caused Modi to call this meeting. The opposition was furious after the PM left midway and did not return for the debate post-lunch. Today marked the first time since demonetisation that PM Modi had come to the upper house to debate on the ban of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

Even as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured the opposition that PM Modi would be back soon to speak in the ongoing debate on the notes ban, the opposition continued raising slogans demanding that he be present for the entire debate.

"The opposition was taken by surprise that the government said the PM would participate and now wants to run away from the debate. It is looking for new excuses to run away," Mr Jaitley alleged, stating that the opposition has "lots more noise and little substance" against the notes ban.
