Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a series of programs to celebrate the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution of India, Dr. BR Ambedkar.
The prime minister formally launched the merchant interface of the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) mobile application. This will enable Indian citizens to make digital payments using their biometric data such as their thumb imprint on a merchant's biometric-enabled device.
The PM also launched two new incentive schemes for the BHIM — cashback and referral bonus — with an outlay of Rs 495 crore for a period of six months.
He also distributed awards to winners of the Lucky Grahak Yojana and DigiDhan Vyapar Yojna. These schemes were launched last year to promote digital payments in India.
