Paytm Movies a blockbuster hit, booking solid 1 lakh movie tickets a day

Just 4 months into launch, Paytm is already booking 1 lakh movie tickets a day. The mobile payments and commerce company aims to book 10 million tickets per month by the end of the current financial year.

As things stand, you can book a show at any of the 2250 screens across PVR, Cinepolis, Inox, Wave, Miraj, MovieTime and Gold Cinemas, apart from other chains and single-screen theatres using Paytm. This number will shoot up to 3000 screens in the coming months.

“Paytm will also bring offline single screens on its platform over a period of time. This will take the reach of Paytm deeper and further in this space, and also aid the theater owners in filling up seats”, Renu Satti, Vice President – Paytm said in an official statement.

The company’s chief rival Bookmyshow has so far dominated the online movie ticketing space. The BigTree Entertainment-owned firm is looking to sell 150 million tickets this year, a straight 50% hike from last year’s figure.

At the end, the battle would come down to who owns the most comprehensive portfolio of theatres from the 550 multiplexes and 2,500 single screen properties across India.
