A female passenger onboard a British Airways flight from London to Boston has been detained after reportedly attempting to open the airliner's door mid-flight.

According to ABC News, the passenger onboard British Airways Flight 213 attempted to open one of the jet's exit doors before being restrained.

Initial reports that the woman attempted to storm the cockpit were incorrect, Reuters reported.

"A passenger on British Airways Flight 213, a 777 en route from Heathrow to Boston, tried to open an exit door and has been restrained," the Federal Aviation Administration said in an emailed statement to Business Insider. "The cockpit is secure and the flight is continuing to Boston."

Massachusetts State Police were on hand at Logan International Airport when the BA flight arrived Tuesday afternoon.

According to the MSP, the 30-year-old woman was intoxicated at the time of incident. Furthermore, the police indicate that there are no known ties between this event and terrorism.

British Airways released the following statement to the media:

Our customers and crew deserve to have a safe and enjoyable flight and we do not tolerate abusive behaviour. Our crew have requested that police meet the flight in Boston due to an unruly customer on board.
