California police responded to reports of a man with a gun at a high school in Palmdale, authorities said Friday.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tweeted that it had detained one person. Earlier, the department tweeted that that a "possible shooting" was reported around 7:00 a.m. PT. A spokesperson told KABC-TV that it was unconfirmed whether any shots were fired at the campus, and it was unclear if there were any injuries.
The incident was reported at Highland High School in Palmdale, north of Los Angeles. The sheriff's department said deputies were on scene searching the campus.
The Highland principal tweeted that people should "stay clear of campus" while authorities assess the situation.
Deputies also responded to reports of gunfire near the Manzanita Elementary School, near the Highland High School, but the sheriff's department tweeted that no other information was available.
