On-road testing may become a norm in future: Volkswagen diesel gate
Volkswagen emission scandal will not only bring significant changes within the company, the Indian government is also planning to make on-road testing of cars mandatory in India. As in the said case, the emission level was much higher in on-road testing than in laboratory testing.

ARAI is investigating the case and if a cheat device is found then there can be different set of penalties levied on the company, a government official told ET.

Ambuj Sharma, additional secretary, department of heavy industries said that the government may widen the net to the other car makers to check if they are meeting the emission standards.

"We would be doing a sample testing of other models of other OEMS as well and in case there is a need for petrol vehicles to be tested as well, we will do that," said Sharma.

ARAI has sent a show cause notice to VW Group and has asked the company to submit their technical explanation in the next 14-21 days on the findings to ARAI.
