Ola is now planning to take its sharing feature to a whole new next level. The Bengaluru-based ride hailing company is considering an expansion of its ride-sharing feature beyond taxis to any and every mode of transport it operates in currently, such as auto rickshaws or kali peelis, Mumbai's traditional cabs.

The company is also looking forward to extend the feature to Ola rentals and outstation, which enables inter-city travel, hoping that sharing will further cut down prices and make the offering more attractive.

The company is also exploring the share feature on its platform and hopes to make the rides cheaper for commuters.

"Ride sharing is the future. It brings costs down and is good for the environment especially in a supply-constrained markwith an increasing demand. This is one of the biggest bets for the company in the future, which is why it is "doubling down, on it,” an official told ET.

Chief executive of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal, said “ride sharing not just brings down the cost for the user but also improves the "bottom-line, for the company since the "asset is utilised better with more than two people sharing it. When it launched Ola Outstation, one of the company's newest offerings, it expected to significantly bring down the cost of travelling in a private vehicle between popular circuits such as Delhi-Jaipur-Agra or Mumbai-Pune.”

"Imagine you can get to a place at onethird of the cost of a normal taxi by sharing the ride,, he added. Aggarwal had also said that Ola is registering fast growth for its car-pooling service, Ola Share, which it expects to account for a majority of the business by next year. "The matching rates on Ola Share are the best in the world, at 80%,” he said.
