The reservation demand of forward Patel community has not only given sleepless nights to the administration, but even OBC members are perplexed by the call.

The Other Backward Communities are planning a strong resistance against the demand by Patel community, saying this will eventually finish off OBC reservation in the country and a day will come when even Brahmins will start demanding quota.

The OBC members say the demand will spread to other states, where upward caste people will start agitating, thereby leaving no space for OBC.

In a bid to give stiff resistance to Patel community’s demand, the OBC Ekta Manch, which is a confederation of the 146 OBC communities in Gujarat, held a meeting with the members of the tribal community leaders in Ahmedabad.

39-year-old Alpesh Thakore will lead the agitation and said the OBC Ekta Manch would now morph into OBC SC ST Ekta Manch and put up a united struggle to protect the reservation.

"We are now preparing a memorandum and have sought time from both the chief minister and governor," Thakore said.
