US President Barack Obama panned former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican, Friday for dismissing the desire for gun-control legislation after the Thursday massacre in Oregon.

"I don't think I even have to react to that one," Obama said when asked about Bush's comments at an unrelated press conference.

Earlier in the day, Bush reacted to the Oregon shooting by saying that new government policies aren't "necessarily the answer to this."

"I had this challenge as governor. Look, stuff happens. There's always a crisis. And the impulse is always to do something and it's not necessarily the right thing to do," Bush said.

Obama called on voters to hold Bush, a 2016 presidential candidate, to task on the issue.

"I think the American people should hear that and make their own judgments based on the fact that every couple months we have a mass shooting," he said. "And they can decide whether they consider that's 'stuff happening.'"

The Umpqua Community College shooting left 10 people dead, including the suspected shooter.

Obama angrily reacted to the incident by calling for the public to politicize gun violence and hold their elected officials accountable.
