According to a study at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (via WSJ.com), Notre Dame's football team is worth $579.4 million while the Alabama program is worth $476 million.

That is nearly $1.1 billion combined. Amazingly, neither school is among the top three most valuable football programs.

The Texas Longhorns top the list at $761.7 million, followed by Michigan ($731.9M) and Florida ($599.7M). Notre Dame is fourth and Ohio State ($586.6M) rounds out the top five. Alabama is eighth.

The study used factors such as "revenues and expenses and made cash-flow adjustments, risk assessments and growth projections" to calculate the value of each program.
