WASHINGTON, D.C. - At approximately 10:33 p.m. local time, US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) systems detected a failed North Korean missile launch near the northwestern city of Kusŏng.

According to USSTRATCOM, the missile is presumed to be a Musadan intermediate-range ballistic missile.
"The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined the missile launch from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America," the USSTRATCOM statement said.
