  • The phone includes five rear cameras and is aimed at early adopters and photography enthusiasts.
  • It will be available from retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H Photo

While companies like Samsung have outfitted their new top-of-the-line smartphones with three rear cameras, HMD Global is one-upping them with a five-camera array on the Nokia 9 PureView.

The $700 phone, which was announced on February 24 during Mobile World Congress, will launch on March 3 in the United States, according to reports from The Verge, 9to5Google, and Android Authority.

The phone is currently listed on retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H Photo, and will be on sale for $100 off until March 10, the reports said.

Aimed at photography enthusiasts, each camera on the Nokia 9 PureView snaps the same photo simultaneously and then fuses them together into one 12-megapixel image that the company claims will have impressive depth of field and dynamic range.

The phone can also capture photos in an uncompressed RAW format known as DNG - the company has partnered with Adobe Lightroom to allow mobile photographers to edit photos directly from the device. There's also a 20-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies.

The cameras feature Zeiss Optics just like older Nokia phones, such as the Windows-based Nokia Lumia 1020, which debuted in 2013. HMD and Zeiss also signed an exclusive partnership to collaborate on smartphones in 2017.

Other than a five-camera arrangement, the Nokia 9 PureView features a 5.9-inch screen, wireless charging, and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor. Like Samsung's recently announced Galaxy S10, it includes an in-screen fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device.

It's one of several standout smartphones unveiled at Mobile World Congress, joining Huawei's foldable Mate X and dual-screen LG V50.
