One of the most awaited smartphone launches for India happened today in New Delhi where HMD Global launched its three Nokia phones, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Are you wondering where did the 4 go? Hang on.

Nokia’s launch in India is certainly not just any other launch; Nokia has had a much deeper connection with India. Back in the 90s Nokia ruled the roost in India even though the competition then was almost non-existent. Nokia was the first mobile device for many Indians then, including me. As Android hit the Indian market towards the end of 90s, Nokia died a slow and painful death. Many attributed Nokia’s crash to Nokia failing to comprehend the power of Android. HMD Global is back now with three new Android powered smartphones and in a way trying to make a very delayed ‘comeback’ in India.

Looking at the three phones you would certainly wonder why there isn’t a Nokia 4, now some may know the reason behind it as this sort of numbering can be seen in some of the Chinese smartphones as well. And the reason why a Nokia 4 will never happen is because in China, the number 4 is considered unlucky number in Chinese because it nearly sounds like the word "death" or "decease" and considering China is one of the biggest markets for Nokia and also the first market where Nokia launched its new Android devices, the company wants to stay away from any bad omen that may fall on the Nokia’s take 2.
