The New York Jets will not make the playoffs as they lost to the Buffalo Bills. Instead, the Pittsburgh Steelers have grabbed the final playoff spot in the AFC thanks to their win over the Cleveland Browns and three fourth-quarter interceptions thrown by Ryan Fitzpatrick.
With the Jets needing only a win or a Steelers loss to make the playoffs, both games were in doubt mid-way through the fourth quarter of both games.
But with the Jets trailing by two and threatening to score, Fitzpatrick threw an ugly and costly interception in the end zone. Fitzpatrick never looked away from the receiver despite tight coverage the entire way.
The second interception was part bad luck and not completely Fitzpatrick's fault. But one momentary hesitation as he started to throw and stopped before regrouping caused him to hold the ball just one tick too long.
Fitzpatrick would throw another interception in the closing seconds to secure their fate and an early trip home.
