lead has been found in during routine tests on two dozen packets of instant noodles, manufactured by Nestle in India by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (
FDA) in Uttar Pradesh. High levels of added monosodium glutamate (MSG), a taste enhancer was also found.
Two FDA officials said that they found a lead concentration of 17.2 parts per million (ppm), nearly seven times the permissible limit.
Though Nestle said they do not add MSG and glutamate, Srivastava deputy inspector general of the FDA in Lucknow, said his team tested each of the two dozen packs, collected from stores across the state, separately before making the findings public.
It will cost the
Nestle India not only money, but brand value as well.
