No more lal battis for VIPs from May 1; PM Modi gives up red beacon too

Finally, the lal batti or the red beacon culture has come to an end. A new regulation has been formed under which VIPs, ministers and lawmakers have been prohibited to use the red beacon from May 1.
Under the new norm, only President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India and the Speaker of Lok Sabha have been exempt from the ban.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also given up the red beacon.
India’s Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said Modi will not use beacons or lal batti on his cars anymore, while removing the lal batti from his own car.
Last week, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) called a meeting to discuss ending the VIP culture.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have already given up the red beacons.
