Nick Kyrgios lost his temper in spectacular fashion during his first round exit at the Rogers Cup, shouting at the umpire over a towel.
Kyrgios was beaten in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in just 67 minutes by Britain's Kyle Edmund in Montreal on Wednesday, bringing to an end a fine run of form for the Australian, who had already won two ATP 500 singles titles this year - first in Acapulco in March, and then at the Washington Open on Sunday.
The manner in which Krygios was humiliatingly eliminated from the first round of the prestigious Canadian Open, a Masters event worth 1,000 tour-level ranking points, sees the 24-year-old attract headlines for the wrong reasons.
This is because Kyrgios spent most of the first set arguing with the umpire Adel Nour after he insisted on being provided with a white towel, rather than one featuring the tournament's branding.
And at 5-2 down, things came to an ugly head.
Watch the meltdown here:
"I just want to know why it took you so long to get a white towel." an enraged Kyrgios said, as reported by Fox Sports.
"You're genuinely telling me you couldn't radio, 'Hey physio room, can I get one white towel?' You're telling me that you can't radio in just for one white towel. 'Hey physio room, can I please get one white towel?'"
Kyrgios was eventually slapped with a code violation for an obscenity, before finally getting the towel 20 minutes later.
"Took you 20 minutes for this one," the Australian said. "20 minutes. Oh, you brought me two. Thanks."
This isn't the first time Kyrgios has landed himself in trouble this year.
He exploded at an umpire in similar fashion back in June, accusing him of rigging the match after disagreeing with his ruling on a ball.
He also came under heavy criticism in July after it was reported he was out drinking until 11 p.m. the night before his second round Wimbledon loss to Rafael Nadal.
