  • John Dorsey was hired as Cleveland Browns GM last week after the team fired the president of football operations Sashi Brown.
  • Dorsey said Brown did not get head coach Hue Jackson any "real players."
  • Dorsey also criticized wide receiver Kenny Britt, calling the decision to cut him "easy."

Newly hired Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey on Thursday made an interesting observation of his team.

While speaking on ESPN Cleveland Radio, Dorsey took a shot at the previous president of football operations, Sashi Brown, saying he failed to get head coach Hue Jackson "real players."

"You gotta get a guy like that players," Dorsey said, via ESPN. "And you know what, I'll come straight out with it, the guys who were here before and that system, they didn't get real players."

Brown was fired after posting a 1-28 record over two seasons. It became clear that his inability to get the Browns an established veteran quarterback hurt his reputation in the organization.

Dorsey added: "I think as Bill Parcells would always say, you are your record. [The Browns are 0-13.] And you know what, there it is. That's the truth teller in this whole thing. And I'm going to do my darnedest to get Hue players."

Dorsey also criticized wide receiver Kenny Britt, who signed with the New England Patriots after being cut by the Browns last week. After catching 68 passes for 1,002 yards with the Los Angeles Rams last season, Britt had just 18 catches for 223 yards with the Browns this year.

"I have no problem making that decision," Dorsey said of cutting Britt. "From a cultural standpoint, I don't think he fits in the prototypical character point of what I'm looking for, in terms of a leader. He did not live up to his expectations as a player. He may have a higher opinion of himself than I have of him as a player. I thought that was easy."

Clearly, Dorsey plans to try to revitalize the team, but his comments may not rub some of his current players the right way. The Browns may have up to 12 picks in the 2018 draft, with five in the first two rounds, so Dorsey will have his shot to get the team "real players."
