Netflix
- Five years since its introduction, Netflix is upgrading its profiles feature.
- Now, subscribers can have icons featuring their favorite character from a Netflix original show, from Luke Cage to Steve from "Stranger Things."
- The updates will reach subscribers in the coming weeks.
Netflix first launched individual profiles in August 2013, and now, they're getting a more personalized upgrade.
When introduced in 2013, Netflix profiles allowed users who share accounts - with, let's say, their roommate's uncle's friend - to have separate profiles on the same account, so their personalized recommendations for Netflix were more specific to their TV and movie habits, and not sullied by those with inferior taste. Every Netflix account can have up to five profiles.
Five years later, the streaming service is polishing up profiles by allowing its users to choose from a collection of new icons featuring characters from Netflix's original shows, including Steve from "Stranger Things," Kimmy Schmidt, and Jonathan from "Queer Eye."

Netflix has also given some of its subscribers' favorite icons a make-over.
In all, these new icons may allow users to express themselves and their interest in Netflix's content a little more than they could before, but honestly, it's not too drastic of a difference.
Netflix
"We know the series and movies on Netflix are more than just things you watch to pass the time," Netflix said in a statement. "The stories - and the characters in them -are also your heroes, frenemies, soul mates and everything in between. We're thrilled to give you a way to show your fandom and make your connection with Netflix more unique."
In case you're completely stuck on what character you want as your profile icon (just like you might be stuck on what to watch), Netflix made a graphic that will help you make a decision:

Netflix's new profile icons will be rolling out on the site, mobile, and TV devices over the next few weeks.
