Mountain Dew Has A New Breakfast Concoction That Takes A Big Shot At The Energy Drink Industry

APThe folks at PepsiCo are rolling out a new drink this month.

It's called Kickstart — a drink made with 5 percent juice, Vitamins B and C, plus extra caffeine — and the new concoction is meant for folks who need a jolt of energy in the morning, Candace Choi at the AP reported.

Pepsi's taking a big shot at the energy drink industry, even though it doesn't want Kickstart to be known as an energy drink. It doesn't contain controversial ingredients or nearly as much caffeine as, say, Red Bull or Monster.

But it's obvious that it's these brands that Pepsi's looking to take on. It even comes in the same 16-ounce tall cans that Monster uses and it's being marketed to the same segment of consumers.

Kickstart is supposed to be an alternative to energy drinks, coffee, tea, and juice in the morning.

Pepsi also makes Amp — a traditional energy drink that hasn't come anywhere close to dethroning industry titan Red Bull, which controls 40 percent of the market.
