- As the Moto G7 launches in one of the most competitive markets in the world, it's difficult not to notice how the new mobile phone pales in comparison to its counterparts.
- The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker hasn't integrated any specs that make the Moto G7 stand out against its competitors like the Xiaomi Redmi 7 Pro or the Asus Max Pro M2.
- Users looking for a mobile phone in the ₹15000 budget will be hard pressed to find a reason to choose the Moto G7 over other options.
The Moto G7 just launched in India with a price tag of ₹16,999 and while that may be 'affordable', it's hardly a value-for-money bargain compared to what else is available in the market.
Even though the price has been marked down for the Indian market from its original $299 (₹20,700) tag, users will be hard pressed to find to choose the Moto G7 over its competitors in the market due its underwhelming specifications. The most glaring issue with the phone is probably its Snapdragon 632 chipset.
In an age where graphics play a central role in the user experience of a phone, regardless or whether its gaming or media, the Snapdragon 632 comes with the ancient Adreno 506 GPU that only allows for low graphics.
In comparison the under smartphone in the under ₹15,000 segment — like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Asus Max Pro M2, and Realme 2 Pro — have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 chipset that's capable for supporting higher graphics thanks to its Adreno 512 GPU.

Between the two chipsets, the Snapdragon 632 is has 40% lower performance than its counterpart according to Qualcomm because of the different in their cores.
Even if you were to set the central functioning of the phone aside, the battery is an underwhelming 3000mAh in a market where most phones are aiming for 4000mAh or higher.
And, considering that the megapixel wars between smartphone manufacturers seem to be kicking up again with Xiaomi's 48 megapixel Redmi 7 Pro or Samsung's Galaxy M20 with a triple camera — the Moto G7 has a basic dual rear camera setup with 12 megapixel and 5 megapixel sensors.
The front camera lags behind as well with an 8 megapixel sensor, where most companies are putting in at least a 13 megapixel sensor.
The 6.24-inch full HD-plus display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and its 4GB RAM with 64GB storage combo is all but normal in today's smartphone market.

The phone's one redeeming quality could be how well the software is integrated with the hardware — but engineering ingenuity can only work within the parameters its given.
And, it's not that Moto G7 isn't a good phone. But, then again, there are better choices in the market.
