More reasons to bid video pirates goodbye, Hooq set to launch in India tomorrow

Hooq, labeled as Asia’s Netflix will launch a beta version in India tomorrow. It aims to grab eyeballs of young internet users active through mobile devices and apps.

The service would offer over 10,000 Hollywood blockbusters, television soaps and local programs for a monthly subscription fee of just Rs. 199 for 5 devices including mobile phones and tablets via app, mobile web, desktops and Android set-top boxes.

Hooq aims to be the legal platform to stem rampant illegal pirated content streaming into Asia. It might have beaten rival Netflix to the Indian market, but the brand arrives amidst wide speculation and debate on net neutrality and zero plans in India.

A formal Indian launch is set for June. Till then the company would keep adding more content. The service is currently available in Thailand and the Philippines.
