Modi to address Silicon Valley from a “Shark Tank”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once again, is all set to address U.S. based Indians in the showground dubbed as the "Shark Tank". Modi, during his visit to Silicon Valley on September 27/28 will address the masses.

As reported by Economic Times, the community leadership in the Bay Area and Modi’s aides has been visiting the region and then zeroed in on the SAP Center in San Jose. NaMo, after Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1949, will become the second Indian PM visiting the west coast. SAP Center is the home of San Jose Sharks in National (ice) Hockey League and is known among sports buffs as the "Shark Tank."

The arena, with a capacity to accommodate around 17,000 people is very much like the Madison Square Garden’s in New York City where Modi made an awe-inspiring appearance last September. The venue was preferred over Cow Palace in San Francisco, which seats only around 12,000.

The SAP Center, when is not hosting NHL/NFL events, is home to entertainment which varies from circuses to concerts. The “Shark Tank” is cited as the fourth busiest arena in the US and also a number of big names in the entertainment industry like Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Sonu Nigam and even ShahRukh Khan have performed there. In fact, someone else from India is going to beat the Prime Minister to SAP — the comedian Kapil Sharma is slated to perform on August 1.

Organizers are expecting an even more crowded event than the Madison Square Garden event, which is still being spoken of in awed tones in New York and Washington, considering that California has the largest population of NRIs in the US, with a heavy concentration in the Bay Area.

The Prime Minister’s program is yet to be finalized with the first meeting between his aides and local community organizers kicking off over the weekend.

Apart from the community event at Shark Tank, a tech sortie, given the Prime Minister's interest in technology is also on the cards. Silicon Valley is home to storied companies such as Google, Intel, HP, and Oracle, not to speak of nifty new social media enterprises such as Facebook and Twitter that Prime Minister Modi is perhaps more familiar with.
