Modi-led Government Has A Revival Plan For Air India

In a bid to improve performance and passenger facilitation, the new government at the Centre has asked the cash-strapped state-run carrier Air India to slash expenditure on operational heads by 10%, says a PTI report.

The decision was taken after senior airline official met meeting Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju along with his Minister of State Mahesh Sharma in New Delhi. The officials also came up with a presentation showcasing performance parameters of Air India.

In 2013-14, Air India witnessed losses of about Rs 5,400 crore in 2013-14.

Asking officials to improve on-time performance of flights by reducing delays, the Minister also sked them to ensure that passengers should be informed about any delay on time.

In case of major delays, the ministers added that the passengers should be provided with refreshments and alternate connections.

The PTI report also suggests that Raju observed the performance of Air India over the last six months. According to him, there is an improvement in the market-share and financial performance of the carrier. However, he added that the airline should put in efforts to achieve a higher and faster turnaround this fiscal.
