  • Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney attended this year's Met Gala.
  • He told the New York Times that he was wearing a Brioni tuxedo he had bought from Amazon at a discount.
  • His wife Ann tried to stop Romney from revealing that information to the Times.

It seems Mitt Romney loves the convenience of Amazon.

The former governor of Massachusetts attended this year's Met Gala, which supports the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. This year's theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination."

Mitt was wearing a Brioni tuxedo, size 40 long, he told The New York Times at the event on Monday. It wasn't just any tuxedo, though: he boasted that he found it on Amazon at a discount.

Amazon is still a place that's known more for its ability to quickly ship customers diapers and paper towels than it is for dressing a guest at the most important fashion event of the year. Though Amazon is trying to change its perception to become more fashionable, it seems it hasn't quite yet moved the needle for the most fashion-conscious.

One of those is likely his wife, Ann, who tried to interrupt Romney from telling the Times reporter about his incredible find online. "Don't you dare!" she yelled as Romney was speaking about his tuxedo.

It's unclear which piece of information Ann didn't want shared: the fact that the tuxedo was steeply discounted, or that it came in the mail in a box with Amazon's smiley face arrow on the side.

Ann's desire not to have either piece of information shared publicly is both understandable and relatable, but her embarrassment didn't stop there. Romney also told the Times that he wasn't aware of the Met Gala before he was invited by friend Stephen Schwarzman to attend. Schwarzman was one of the honorary chairmen of this year's event.

"Ann said, 'Are you kidding?'" Romney told the Times.
