This 'self-charging' electric car has a dashboard filled with dead moss to clean the air
The Sion has a range of 250 kilometers or about 155.343 miles. It also has a maximum solar range of 34 kilometers or 21 miles.
The car has an MSRP of €25,500, or about $28,209. Production will begin the second half of 2020, and Sono Motors plans on producing a total of 260,000 vehicles over an eight-year period.
The cars will be manufactured in Trollhättan, Sweden by the National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) with 100% renewable energy, according to the company.
The island moss in the dashboard is part of the breSono air filtration system. The automaker claims it filters up to 20% of particulate matter out of the air while regulating the temperature and humidity.
However, the moss has been specially treated and is no longer alive.
The car is no speed demon. It has a maximum speed of 140 kph, or about 87 mph, and can hit 62 mph in about 9 seconds.
The goSono app allows owners to share power or their car. The automaker is pushing for carSharing, rideSharing, and powerSharing because of the potential economic and financial benefits.
Exactly 248 solar cells are integrated into the body of the car, allowing the battery to charge during the day. Up to 34 kilometers, or 21 miles, of additional range, can be added per day using solar energy, according to Sono Motors.
It takes 30 minutes to charge up to 80% of the 35 kWh battery at a rapid charging station. The car also has a bidirectional onboard charger, allowing it to recharge and share its power with other electric vehicles.
