A Land Rover that was owned by the Dalai Lama was just purchased by a anonymous buyer for $143,000

This 1966 Land Rover Series IIA 88 was formerly owned by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.

His family maintained the car until 2005.

It was then donated in December of 2005 to the Dalai Lama Foundation in Palo Alto, California, with the goal of raising funds for Tibetan refugees, arriving in the US.

The car was fully restored in 2006 with a total cost of more than $49,000.

The Land Rover still has many of its original features that have been repaired during restoration, including the seats, interior parts, tires, and license plate.

The Bronze Green paint is the same color that the factory painted in 1966.

The car was featured on the cover of Land Rover Lifestyle magazine in 2007 when it was named one of the six best Land Rovers in the US

The car fetched $143,000 at RM Sotheby's Auburn Fall auction.
