Rail Budget 2016: Railways to enhance e-ticketing capacity to 7,200/min

In the announcement of Rail Budget 2016, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that he is looking forward to enhance the capacity of the online ticketing system.

"We have enhanced capacity of e-ticketing system from 2000 tickets/min to 7,200/min." "We are now supporting 1.2 lakh concurrent users now, as opposed to 40,000 earlier," he added.

"There is no barrier today between a common passenger and Indian Railways," Prabhu said citing outreach to improve customer services.
The railway minister added that he aims to up the connectivity, for which he proposed to connect North-Eastern states via broad-gauge.

"We will connect North-eastern states of Misoram, Tripura via broad-gauge," Prabhu said.

Sharing his ambitious plans for Railways, he said, "We propose to electrify 2000 km next year, have increased electrification budget by 50%."

"We are looking to borrow Rs 20,000 crore this fiscal. We are targeting capex of Rs 1.21 lakh cr over FY17."

Regarding Modi government's 'Make in India' drive, he said, "New locomotive factories will be set up with an order book of Rs 40,000 crore."

He further said that LIC has agreed to invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore in railway projects as funding.
