Michael Cohen, the personal lawyer of President Donald Trump whose home and office were raided this week reportedly said, "I'd rather jump out of a building than turn on Donald Trump," in a conversation with a radio host.
New York Times reporter Michael Grynbaum relayed the exchange on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
The comment comes two days after the Monday morning raid, during which law-enforcement officials confiscated electronic devices and documents related to work Cohen has done for his clients, including Trump.
A $130,000 payment Cohen made to the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 is one thread of the investigations surrounding Cohen. Multiple news outlets also reported that Cohen is the subject of inquiries into bank fraud and violations of campaign-finance law.
Because the investigative matters potentially involve activities related to work Cohen performed for his clients, he could be called to testify against them, which could put Cohen squarely on the opposite side of Trump, one of his longtime clients.
In an interview with CNN published on Tuesday, Cohen said he is worried about what's next. "Do I need this in my life? No. Do I want to be involved in this? No." he said.
