Argentine Football superstar Lionel Messi has decided to retire from international football, but Tata Motors has said that his decision will have no effect on his association with the company, who had signed Messi as its global brand ambassador last November, making it his first association with an Indian brand.

It was after Argentina crashed to defeat against Chile in the Copa America Centenario final that Messi announced his retirement, stating that “it hurts not to be a champion”.

However, a spokesperson from Tata Motors has said that "this does not change our association with him."

Tata Motors had roped in Messi in an extendable two-year contract to promote and endorse its passenger vehicles around the globe.

Messi has also appeared in the commercial for Tiago, the latest car from Tata Motors.
