Meet this Gujarati street food seller, who just introduced Jio like schemes of unlimited paanipuris

Even Mukesh Ambani couldn’t have envisioned this coming. It’s an old adage that you get inspiration from anything. And Ravi Jagadamba took it too seriously. At Porbandar in Gujarat, Ravi has started his own paanipuri stall naming it Jio Paanipuri, where he sells dahipuri, sev puri, masala puri besides regular paanipuri. Not just the name, Ravi’s business strategy is as aggressive as Ambani’s. Just like Jio’s low priced plans, he is offering prime membership for his customers who can get unlimited number of paanipuris at Rs 100/ day or Rs 1000/ month. You can try having 20 paanipuris in the evening and return an hour after for the rest – that’s the flexibility of the plan. However you would need to pay in advance. And of course when Modi is so ecstatic about cashless economy, how can this Gujarati paanipuri seller stay aloof. He accepts payment through payment banks and debit card.

Paanipuri is a popular Indian street snack available across the country and called by different names. While in the North its golgappa, in the East it becomes Fuchka and in the West of the country, its paanipuri.

Indian street food sellers are masterminds when it comes to marketing. While hygiene still remains a question, even in the capital city of Delhi, these sellers mostly running around with their cart full of deliciousness and offer snacks at nominal prices.

Reliance Jio’s schemes of offering unlimited data and calls at cheap price have disrupted the telecom industry with biggies bleeding badly in terms of profit when the rivals took recourse in similar schemes. We would need to wait for some time to find out if this marketing strategy of Ravi is copied by other street food sellers across the country. According to media reports, Ravi has managed to sell some hundreds of subscriptions till date, most of which came after his strategy got viral on social media.
