“It started as something I did for fun after coming back from a hectic day at work. I have a background in PR and Marketing so I’d desperately be looking for something to do to take my mind off things,” she tells me.
Make-up and beauty videos were an easy choice as she was always found playing around with makeup, even when she was little.
“I would always be found obsessing over my mother’s makeup,” the soft-spoken Kaushal adds laughingly.
Kaushal’s popularity largely stemmed from her easy to replicate DIY videos and Bollywood inspired looks.
Being Indian herself, she tapped into the Indian fan base with her easy-to-do Indian makeup tutorials that soon caught the fancy of almost every girl.
To ensure engagement with her fans, Kaushal makes it a point to upload atleast two videos every week and does the shooting and editing all by herself.
“Shooting each video takes me close to two hours and then the time consumed by editing depends on what all effects I want to use,” she says.
She very candidly admits that she never expected her channel would get this popular and believes one should work harder to achieve something they know they’re good. “My initial videos were really bad and embarrassing but people were still watching them and that made me realise I could have a much larger reach if my videos were better,”
When I ask her how much makeup she owns, she’s quick to reply, “More than my clothes.”
She thinks the USP of her makeup tutorials is that there’s something for everyone. “In my videos, I do DIY, some very easy-to-do looks, latest makeup trends, Bollywood and sometimes even Hollywood inspired looks. So you get a lot of variety.”
Responding to what she’s looking forward to do in her India visit, she excitedly answers, “Eat all the street food I can. It’s been just a day in Mumbai and I have already had my fair share of vada paav and chaats.”
