Meet RR Martin, the GOT writer who is not happy the way the show is ending

George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones seems to be in dismay with the way HBO has chosen to end it. Martin’s famed book A Song of Ice and Fire is the basis for the theme and story line of the fantasy show aired by HBO. Over the few starting episodes, the show has closely followed the storyline and mood of Martin’s book. Insider observations say that Martin had even penned several episodes for the show and even had a cameo in the plot originally sported by the show.

As the show moved to season 5, there had been a noticeable drift in the way HOB approached the theme, story and the mood of the show. The story line, twists and the deaths of the characters have not been found on the actual story line as noticed in the shows. The GOT aired by HBO is ending much before the author is penning the ending of his series of books. The author says he has not even started writing the final two books out of seven. So, we come to know that though Martin had created the overall plot for the HBO’s story of GOT, the actual ending of the story could be far different from how HBO has chosen to end it.

D.B. Weiss stated in an interview to the press that Martin had long back stepped away from the GOT series aired by HBO in order to keep his books look separate from the show. Also, Martin was so much devoted to pen the Winds of Winter to be on the shelves that he had firmly resolved not to read the scripts of the final season or film a guest spot in advance of the finale. He had said, “I haven’t read the [final-season] scripts and haven’t been able to visit the set because I’ve been working on Winds. I know some of the things. But there’s a lot of minor-character [arcs] they’ll be coming up with on their own. And, of course, they passed me several years ago. There may be important discrepancies.”

Martin seem to have been surprised why the HBO show must end now. He told in a meeting with the press, “I don’t think it should be the final season. But here we are. It seems to me we just started last week. Has it been longer than that? The time has passed by in a blur. But it’s exciting. I know it’s an end, but it’s not much of an end for me. I’m still deep in writing the books. We saw five other sequel shows in development. I think I’m going to be hanging around Westeros while everyone else has left.”

Voicing his strong intentions to differ from the HBO show while penning his final volumes, Martin added, "I’ve been so slow with these books. The major points of the ending will be things I told [Benioff and Weiss] five or six years ago. But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added."
