Meet Kieren D’souza, the first Indian to complete the world’s toughest and longest race

Twenty-three-old Kieren D’souza, an ultra-marathoner (one who covers more than the average 42 kms) created history back in April when he became the first Indian to qualify for the Sparthathlon, an annual run in Greece that lasts 246.6 km and is widely considered, ‘The world’s toughest race.’

This month, he went ahead and bettered that achievement by successfully completing the race. Defying all odds, he completed the race in 33 hours, three minutes and 25 seconds, becoming the first ever Indian to finish it.

His feat becomes all the more special considering till date only 50% of the runners have been successful in completing this race, with India having no success- until now.

The Bengaluru boy had been training for this race since 2012 and just last year completed the 222 km La Ultra in Ladakh, again becoming the only Indian to have managed to do so.
