McDonald's will begin offering fruit, salads and vegetables as sides, continuing its push to increase its healthier offerings.

The company also said it would only advertise water, milk, and juice - and not soda -with kid's meals going forward.

The announcement was made in a joint statement with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, reports Leslie Patton at Bloomberg.

The change will be implemented within three years.

The company didn't specify exactly what healthier sides it would begin offering with value meals.

McDonald's competitor Burger King launched its new reduced-fat fries this week.
