McDonald's Is Getting Closer to Extending Breakfast Hours
"We know ... that breakfast on the weekend cut off at 10:30 doesn't go very well," Jeff Stratton, head of McDonald's USA, told the AP. "We're just beginning. ... We're just taking a look at it."
We contacted McDonald's to find out whether the chain is considering an all-day breakfast menu or an extension of just a couple hours. We will update when we hear back.
McDonald's customers have long urged the chain to make Egg McMuffins, Sausage Biscuits, and other popular breakfast items available all day.
But the chain's small kitchens could make it difficult to expand the menu without slowing down service.
The menu has expanded 70% since 2007, and McDonald's is now struggling with the longest drive-thru wait times in decades.
McDonald's CEO Don Thompson has hinted in the past that he would consider an all-day breakfast menu.
"Yes, we would consider it," Thompson told CNBC in April. But, he added, "We have to focus on our existing menu, focus on the delivery of that and great customer experiences."
