Matthew McConaughey's 2019 is not off to a great start at the box office.

"The Beach Bum" stars McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, and Zac Efron, and follows McConaughey's poet stoner character, Moondog, "a rebellious rogue who always lives life by his own rules."

This was noted indie filmmaker Korine's first wide release and he spoke with Business Insider's Jason Guerrasio about what that was like in an interview before the movie opened.

"It's exciting because I always wanted the movies to always be seen by as many people as they could," Korine said. "I never purposely wanted to limit them."
