India’s auto market is witnessing a surge in demand of small cars. The response received by the re-launch of Baleno proves the fact. Industry experts say the auto market is growing to its full strength now. This is the time for carmakers to capture the market to its full potential. The numbers of the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) are out and it states that the company is well ahead in its game. It reported a 29.1 per cent rise in total sales in October at 1, 34, 209 units as against 1,03,973 units in the same month a year ago.

The company said its domestic sales increased by 24.7 per cent during the month to 1,21,063 units as against 97,069 units in October 2014.

Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, increased by 5.2 per cent to 37,595 units as compared to 35,753 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire, and recently launched Baleno increased by 37.7 per cent to 51,048 units in October this year as against 37,083 units a year ago.

MSI said sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour surged over two-fold during the month under review at 3,418 units as against 1,408 units in October 2014.

The sales of company's mid-sized sedan Ciaz, which was launched in October 2014, stood at 5,890 units, down 7.2 per cent as against 6,345 units in the same period last year.

There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month.

Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga and S-Cross rose by 56.5 per cent at 9,435 units in October this year from 6,027 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- rose 30.8 per cent to 13,677 units in October this year as compared to 10,453 units in the same period of the previous year. Exports during the month rose by 90.4 per cent to 13,146 units as compared to 6,904 units in October last year, MSI said.
