Maruti Suzuki focusing on less emission and more mileage
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), India’s largest carmaker, has started to focus on new technologies that would allow it to cut emission per vehicle and increasing fuel efficiency.

As per a company statement, weighted average of CO2 emission for its entire fleet has been brought down by nearly 19% over the last decade.

"Going forward, we will continue our focus on investing in new technologies and strengthen our capability to bring down emissions per vehicle by enhancing fuel efficiency of our cars," stated Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director (Engineering) C V Raman.

The focus area also involve upgrading current engines and transmissions, making models more aerodynamic to enhance fuel efficiency, and new generation light weight platforms.

"We work on platform strategy and keep on rationalising them to offer better value to the customers by better fuel efficiency and better performance, which leads to reduction in emissions," Raman added.

The statement added that the introduction of mild hybrid system in mass market vehicles, as well as factory-fitted CNG in vehicles have helped in MSI being able to offer more eco-friendly vehicles.

The company added that three of the most fuel efficient cars in India, being the diesel variants of hatchback Celerio (27.62 kmpl), compact sedan Dzire (28.4 kmpl), and the mid-sized sedan Ciaz (28.09 kmpl), have all come from the Maruti house.
