Manti Te'o's NFL Draft Stock Is Plummeting
Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesManti Te'o has had a miserable eight weeks, and it has sent his NFL draft stock tumbling.
Te'o is now projected as a late-first, early-second round pick by most experts.
At the end of the college football season, he was considered by some to be a top-10 pick.
But then he played poorly in the National Championship Game against Alabama in January, the story of his dead girlfriend was revealed to be a hoax a few weeks later, and he had a rough time at the NFL Combine this week.
ESPN's Todd McShay rates him as the 25th-best player in the draft, down from 18th a few weeks ago. He wrote:
"Another player who is trending down based solely on film and not on any other factor. Te'o was sliding down the board before his poor showing at the combine, thanks to questions about his movement skills and ability to take on and shed blockers."
NFL people are down on him as well. A Jets exec told ESPN's Rich Cimini that drafting Te'o "scares you a little bit," and Cimini reported that the Jets were not considering taking Te'o.
His next chance to turn his stock around is his Pro Day on March 26th — where he'll work out in front of scouts on campus at Notre Dame.
