The sports coupe has been designed by Ramkripa Ananthan (45) along with her local team comprising of 45 members, and has taken critical inputs from Pininfarina, the Italian car-styling company that the Mahindra group has agreed to buy for more than Rs 1,240 crore.
Known for its body SUVs, M&M’s XUV 500 was the first model that came out having a distinctly expressive design, and KUV 100 has been the most recent of the lot.
"Indian customers like little bit of flamboyance; it would be a little bit over the top. Some experts may say M&M has gone overboard; I would say, yes M&M has gone overboard by design and not by accident," Executive Director Pawan Goenka told ET.
It was this understanding of the importance of design that led the group to buy Pininfarina, which in the past has helped design iconic brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and Cadillac.
The company expects that Aero will be the showstopper among about 20 vehicles that will be on display at the pavilion.
