Maharashtra, time to introspect? You may soon face a blanket ban on alcohol!

Few months back, the debates around the ban on beef in Maharashtra had reached a crescendo. And now this very State is mulling a ban on alcohol. Yes, you heard it right. Though not finalized, Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis has proposed to ‘check’ the liquor mafia problem by banning liquor entirely in the State. While the ban is already in place in Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Wardha, Fadnavis will take a look at the situation and consider the decision of a blanket ban.

The issue came to light when the CM was listening to NCP MLC Sandeep Bajoria's question in the state legislative council. Bajoria alleged that a cop belonging to Yavali village in Yavatmal district had been stoned to death for raising his voice against illegal liquor sale.

"It is an unfortunate incident... the government is enforcing the ban in Yavatmal district but people who are part of the implementing machinery are being killed by liquor mafias. It is discouraging. The government should take stern action against them," he said in reply.

Fadnavis intends to impose the liquor ban all across the state after analysing results of the three districts. .

The CM has also said that people involved in adulteration of medicine, liquor and milk should be awarded capital punishment.
