Logistics unit of Flipkart, Ekart, to be a separate entity soon

Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal is going to turn Ekart into an independent business that will cater to other companies also.

Ekart, which is a logistics unit of Flipkart and recently received Rs 666 crore, is also looking for a new CEO.

Talks have begun with investors to raise capital for Ekart.

People in the know how told ET that Flipkart had begun discussions with Russian billionaire Yuri Milner's DST Global, which is also a stakeholder in Flipkart.

Flipkart wants its warehouses to be used to generate revenues and had also increased its spacing in this regard.

Meanwhile, reportedly, Ekart handles around 3.25-lakh deliveries a day.

Ekart, which as per reports, handles 3.25 lakh deliveries per day has plans to spend $500 million to set up 50-100 delivery centres in next five years.

One of the challenges for Binny Bansal would be to enlist outside clients.

In this regard, Flipkart wants to work with electronics and consumer goods companies for distribution.
