Local police struggle to recover the body of the American tourist who was killed by Sentinelese tribe in India

• The Indian police are looking for ways to recover the body of the American tourist, John Allen Chau, who was reportedly killed last week by the Sentinelese tribe on India’s Andaman and Nicobar islands.
  
• The authorities attempted to visit the shore near the remote island to locate the place where the body is suspected to be buried, according to the local fishermen.
  
• Indian Anthropologist, TN Pandit, who interacted with the tribe in the 1960s said that the tribe doesn’t usually kill and outsiders have been warned clearly to not enter their region.

The local police in India are reportedly trying to understand the death rituals of the Sentinelese Tribe in a bid to locate the body of the American tourist who was allegedly killed by bows and arrows by tribesmen on the North Sentinel Island in India’s Andaman and Nicobar islands, according to recent media reports.

In a recent development, the local authorities said they are looking for ways to seek the body of the American tourist without trying to ignite a turmoil with the tribe. The police reportedly took a boat to a point near the shore on Saturday in an attempt to trace the body of the John Allen Chau after the fisherman claimed that they saw his body getting buried on the beach.

Moreover, the police are also seeking advice from anthropologists and academics who study the behavior of Sentinelese Tribe following the incident, Dependra Pathak, DGP, Andaman and Nicobar, said in a tweet.


One of the few anthropologists who interacted with the Sentinelese tribe, TN Pandit, recently said that he was ‘surprised’ by the news that Sentinelese has killed an outsider. He further stated that the Sentinelese do not kill people. In fact, they warn people for not trespassing in their region, Economic Times reported citing Pandit.
