Tesla is expected to report third-quarter earnings after the market close on Tuesday.

Expectations are for the electric car company to report an adjusted loss per share of $0.56 on revenue of $1.24 billion.

The big story for Tesla, however, will be deliveries and its delivery guidance.

The company has said it expects to deliver 50,000-55,000 vehicles in 2015, but to do this the company will need to build and deliver 17,000 in the fourth quarter, which would be a record.

And so the company could lower these expectations yet again - earlier this year, Tesla took its delivery outlook from 55,000 to a range of 50,000-55,000.

Also closely watched will be any news on how sales of Tesla's new Model X SUV are going, with analysts at Barclays writing ahead of the report that a slow "ramp" in sales of the Model X, "reinforces our view that Tesla is likely to significantly miss" its 2015 guidance.

According to data from Bloomberg, the implied movement in Tesla shares the day after its earnings report is 9%, so almost no matter what happens with earnings, the stock move will probably be big.

Ahead of the report, Tesla shares were down more than 2% on Tuesday.

We'll be back with the live numbers when they cross.
